Hi, i'm rae
fine art pet photographer
I am a fellow horse crazy girl and all around animal lover. I grew up hating photos of myself and I never wanted my picture taken., but as I've gotten older, I've realized how much these memories mean to me.
Out of high school I did not know what I wanted to do, although I knew it involed animals somehow. I grew up wanting to be a veterinarian, although the idea of THAT much school was really discouraging. While deciding on what I wanted to be when I grew up, I went to veterinary technician school; same business as the veterinarians, but with much less school involved and I graduated as an LVT in 2024. I did not realize coming into this profession, how much the people would matter to me. I love working with the animals, but getting to hear the stories their owners bring is very touching, I love getting to hear how they picked out that specific puppy or their lates summer adventures. It truly is the highlight of my day any time a client starts talking about their pet
Jumping back to 2020, I was leasing an OTTB mare from my trainer at the time. I don't think words will ever convey how much I adored this horse. She was not "marish" at all, a very in your pocket type, and super eager to learn. I think, looking back on it now, that Indy was my first inspiration for phototgraphy. I did not have a camera at the time and just used my smartphone to take pictures of her. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to upgrade to an actual camera before we lost her at 7 years old to colic. I had not even graduated high school yet, and had only been leasing this mare for 6 months before I had to say goodbye. I wish more than anything that I had some high quality photos of us together hanging on my wall right now. And I know a lot of pet owners, whether they are dog, cat, horse, or exotic animal lovers, wish they would have gotten the chance to create some lasting memories.
I did end up getting my first DSLR camera shortly after high school and used as many of my frineds as I could as models. In 2021 I started reaching out to barns in my area to see if anyone was interested in some free portfolio shoots and I had a decent amount of takers! I got a lot of expereince in that short amount of time and really learned how to edit in Photoshop. I upgraded my camera to an intermediate DSLR not long after that and just did photography as a hobby while in veterinary technician school. I would take photos of my frineds, landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife, anything I could really. It wasn't until the end of 2025, after getting all of these pet stories from clinets at the clinic, that I realized how much I missed taking photos for other people and helping to capture these memories. So
As someone who has been there for a first puppy or kitten visit, the ordinary and mundane wellness checkups, and the quality of life consults, there are a lot of years of good memories tucked away in between. I have found a passion in being able to draw out those memories and help clients keep them close.
